Who is Michelle Reader?
Michelle Reader is a very well known artist, she uses recycled and reused items to create sculptures of art with them. She was born in 1975 in Cambridge, England.

She reuses waste materials to crate unique and recycled sculptures, she has been working with recycled materials in her art since 1997.
What recycled materials does she use?
She mostly uses bottle caps, reused toys and clocks in her art as to giving a 3D form to it.
How does she use the recycled materials to create art?
She does also use mechanical artwork by using mechanical creations as she sees a possibility for interaction and movement, she uses clocks and old toys and incorporates them to her work.
How is her work relevant to our topic?
As we are doing waste as art, we see the different types of waste such as plastics, cardboard, and more, she uses the materials and gives a better meaning to her artwork to educate the globe on how to help as she has contributed with organizations and schools to help, but to also have another way to make people to have a better mindset on what we have to do to help, this makes us want to do more than what we already have.
Why does she create this type of art?
''I love the unpredictability of found materials and enjoy the inventiveness necessary to transform them into a sculpture. I like to make work that is interactive and inviting, tactile and colourful. The joy of working with found materials is the unexpected uses that can be found for them. For instance, an umbrella and a bucket combining to form the trumpet of a daffodil, two old oil cans forming the basis of a wind turbine, or the internal workings of an alarm clock becoming a mechanism for a propeller.
The choice of materials can also be a key part of the story of a piece. In 2008 I created a portrait of a family made from a month's worth of their own household waste. The materials not only highlight a need to address the amount of waste each of us produces, but also tells the story of each individual through the things they discard – a child’s drawings, a shopping list, a birthday card. I try wherever possible to use materials that are reclaimed, things with a history that have been discarded and might otherwise end up in landfill. My sculptures draw attention to environmental issues in an aesthetic, humorous and non-confrontational way.'' By Michelle Reader.
